2024: Plans to enter the Russian market

On January 25, 2024, it became known about the decision of the Chinese processor developer Sophgo to enter the Russian market. To do this, the company has already begun sending offers to market participants to cooperate and create a joint product.

The fact that Sophgo is preparing to work in the Russian Federation, writes Kommersant. Director of Norsi-Trans (produces servers and DSS) Sergei Ovchinnikov, in a conversation with the publication, confirmed the fact that the Chinese company is trying to conclude a partnership with Russian equipment developers. However, he noted that Sophgo does not have motherboards developed for Russian solutions.

Domestic vendors in this case will have to develop components from scratch, which will take at least two years and several billion rubles, says Ovchinnikov.

Oleg Emeramrudov, director of RosStorage (a consortium of storage systems developers), said that Sophgo is mainly engaged in processors to accelerate artificial intelligence and the company has its own operating algorithm. Similar solutions are released by Nvidia, Intel and AMD.

Now the artificial intelligence market is in the initial stage of development, as well as the development of tensor processors for this technology, "Emeraludov explained in a conversation with the publication at the end of January 2024.

He also added that there is no single leader and standard in the global market in the field of software algorithms and hardware accelerators, in connection with which American and Chinese developers "have the same prospects."

Sophgo processors may be of interest to Yandex and Sber - both companies use AI in their products, says Dmitry Markov, head of VisionLabs.[1]
