2024: Product Announcement

On January 24, 2024, ClearPoint Neuro unveiled a laser system called Prism designed for neurosurgery. It is said to be the world's first device in its class that does not require cooling.

We are talking about a specialized system of laser interstitial thermotherapy under the control of magnetic resonance imaging (MRgLITT) for neurosurgical procedures. The ClearPoint Prism Neuro Laser Therapy System tool is used in conjunction with the ClearPoint Neuro Navigation System. The complex allows accurate targeting and laser ablation.

The next generation laser tool eliminates the need for external cooling through the use of glass fiber diffusion tip technology. This simplifies tuning, reduces ablation power and time, and reduces imaging artifacts, which allows for more efficient surgical procedures.

As of late January 2024, the Prism complex is in use at Kaleida Health, a nonprofit health network that operates five hospitals in the Buffalo-Niagara Falls area. The first procedures were conducted by the Kaleida Health team and Dr. Jonathan Riley, assistant professor of neurosurgery at the University of Buffalo.

This is an industry-leading suite of technologies that allows us to offer minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures to patients, says Riley.

The Prism system is designed for soft tissue necrosis or coagulation through interstitial irradiation or thermal therapy. The associated ThermoGuide workstation helps identify and visualize relative changes in tissue temperature.[1]
