Biography

Oleg Kononenko was born on June 21, 1964 in the city of Chardzhou, Turkmen SSR.

1996-1998

From 1996 to 1998 he underwent general space training at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. In March 1998, he was awarded the qualification of "test astronaut."

2008

Oleg Kononenko made his first flight into space in April 2008, traveling to the ISS on the Soyuz TMA-12 spacecraft. Upon returning from his first expedition to the station, the cosmonaut was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation and pilot-cosmonaut of the Russian Federation.

2024: Record for total spaceflight duration

On February 4, 2024, the commander of the cosmonaut squad Roskosmos"," special correspondent TASS for International Space Station (ISS) Oleg Kononenko broke the world record for total stay in space.

As reported in the Roscosmos Telegram channel, on February 4 at 11:30:08 Moscow time, Kononenko exceeded the achievement of the Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka, who spent 1998 days 2015 hours 878 minutes 11 seconds in space over five missions (from 29 to 48). The astronaut himself said that setting the record was not his goal.

It is expected that on June 5, 2024 at 00:00:20 Moscow time, Oleg Kononenko will be the first person to spend in the near-earth space in the amount of 1 thousand days. At the end of the annual expedition (September 23, 2024), its total flight time will be 1110 days, the state corporation said.[1]
