2024: Joining the Kommunarka Clinical Center

On February 7, 2024, the Moscow Department of Health announced that the City Clinical Hospital (GKB) No. 17, located in the Solntsevo district in the west of the capital, became part of the Kommunarka Moscow Multidisciplinary Clinical Center. It is assumed that this will open up new opportunities and development prospects for the City Clinical Hospital.

In connection with this event, information began to spread on the Internet that it is planned to close GKB No. 17, erect residential buildings in its place, and gradually dissolve medical personnel. As a result, local residents began to strike and arrange single pickets, demanding explanations from the Moscow Department of Health and officials.

In response to the protests, the Department of Health reported that the information about the closure of hospital No. 17 "categorically does not correspond to reality and is unreliable." As of mid-February 2024, the City Clinical Hospital continues to work, it provides assistance to patients with influenza, SARS and community-acquired pneumonia. At the same time, the Department of Health states that the multidisciplinary, level of equipment, the most powerful surgical, resuscitation and other services of the Kommunarka center significantly exceed the available resources of hospital No. 17, and therefore medical assistance to residents will be provided at a higher level. GKB plays an important role in preventing the spread of infectious diseases, and when there is no need for an infectious diseases hospital, the hospital will continue to carry out medical activities taking into account new opportunities.
