Sechenov University begins to use quantum technology in drug development

On February 14, 2024, Sechenov University, the Skolkovo Foundation, the Russian Quantum Center and the Cloud Quantum Technologies company signed an agreement on cooperation in the application of quantum technologies in medicine and their subsequent commercialization. The main areas of partnership include:

  • creation of new medicinal products;
  • accelerating genome assembly and analysis;
  • quantum machine learning in medicine;
  • higher accuracy of diagnosing diseases.

In addition, the partners agreed to focus on the development of an ecosystem scientific and technological and business community in the field of quantum technologies in medicine, as well as the organization of scientific and practical conferences and the preparation of joint publications and educational programs, the press service of Sechenov University reports.

According to Andrei Svistunov, First Vice-Rector of the First Moscow State Medical University, the cooperation of Sechenov University with partners in the field of quantum technologies will allow the university to effectively develop domestic medicine, develop innovative methods of diagnosis and treatment, create new drugs and thereby increase the duration and quality of life of Russians.

Vice President, Executive Director of the Skolkovo Biomedical Technology Cluster Camila Zarubina, in turn, stressed that the use of quantum technologies for analyzing medical images and genetic information is an example of introducing advanced scientific developments into clinical practice.
