2024: Installing viruses in computers at the factory

In late February 2024, Chinese computer maker Acemagic admitted that some of its devices were being shipped to the market with malicious software loaded at the factory. Malware introduced at the enterprise can be used, among other things, to steal personal information.

It turned out that malware it was originally present on Acemagic computers such as AD08, AD15 and S1. In particular, viruses of the Bladabindi and Redline families were found. These malware can steal various data, extract information from browsers, register keystrokes and steal cryptocurrency assets. After turning on the infected PC, the antivirus built into Windows operating systems warns about the problem. According to reports, the malware is present on Acemagic devices manufactured between September and November 2023.

The incident was due to software changes made by developers to reduce computer boot times, which inadvertently affected settings and resulted in a lack of digital signatures. This oversight led to the arrival on the market of small form factor computers infected with the virus, released before November 18, 2023, Acemagic said in a statement.

The company promised to return the money to all consumers who received the infected devices and handed them over to the store. Those users who, in accordance with the published instructions, will disinfect themselves, will be able to return 25% of the cost of computers. In addition, any affected consumer can apply for a voucher that gives a 10% discount on any future purchase of Acemagic products.[1]
