2024: Showing fully AI-produced cartoons on Chinese television

At the end of February 2024, the Chinese state television company China Media Group began broadcasting the country's first animated series, completely created using generative artificial intelligence (GENI) tools. The project, called Qianqiu Shisong, features 26 episodes lasting approximately 7 minutes each.

When creating cartoons, the CMG Media GPT neural network is used, similar to OpenAI Sora. It allows you to form video materials by text description. The CMG Media GPT training used a huge amount of video and audio materials from the broadcaster. The neural network is capable of creating graphic images and animated scenes that embody the style of traditional Chinese paintings made with ink.

According to the South China Morning Post, Genii tools are used at all stages of cartoon creation - from sketches and character development to the generation of the final video. The plot of Qianqiu Shisong is based on poems from classical Chinese poetry presented in the secondary school curriculum.

Shen Haixiong, head of China Media Group, said the company intends to "dive deeper" into technological innovation and artificial intelligence. A "powerful engine" and "driving force" for a new type of media will be created, he said. At the same time, the Chinese government demanded that officials promote the development and use of AI at key state-owned enterprises. This is supposed to help strengthen the country's IT sector.[1]
