Direct Satellite Connection
Compact, data center RUVDS launched in early April 2024 near the North Pole, completed the tasks. RuVDS announced this on April 24, 2024. Specialists - hostingprovider managed to establish a direct connection with their own satellite company and transfer data packets despite a significant shift in the mission timing.
Our data center began work on the territory of the Barneo camp on a drifting ice floe. Unfortunately, within days the ice floe cracked and all people and equipment were evacuated. But this did not prevent us from realizing all the goals set: the system, or rather, its prototype, demonstrated full viability even in extreme conditions of the Arctic, and we plan to develop this direction. I am sure that such solutions can be useful for missions in remote corners of the planet, when it is important to have additional and at the same time available communication channels, "said Nikita Tsaplin, General Director of RUVDS. |
During the entire period of operation of the Arctic camp, the data center transmitted data on its own communication channel RUVDS. To do this, the data center itself was equipped with an antenna that provides communication with a satellite, which acted as an independent repeater, redirecting the signal to the flight control center. The company's specialists also used a duplicate system in the form of a commercial satellite communication system, which made it possible to compare the accuracy of information and the efficiency of its transmission.
Server Hardware Supply
The server equipment, on the basis of which RUVDS will deploy a data center in the immediate vicinity of the North Pole, was delivered to the territory of the Barneo ice camp. The electronics were dropped from the IL-76. RuVDS announced this on April 12, 2024.
Our presence in, To the Arctic albeit temporary, will allow us to test several hypotheses related to storage and transmission at once. In information particular, we want to test the stability of the equipment to Arctic temperatures and conditions, to assess the impact of the northern lights on the signal and other aspects. The equipment is designed to operate in extreme conditions. Also in the project will be involved, satellite which - hostingprovider put into orbit in July 2023. In the future, our initiative will allow us to approach the deployment of computing power in the region in a new way, opening up new opportunities for both scientists, reducing communication costs, and business - both in the issue of industrial development of the Arctic, and in the implementation of initiatives like the same, - Northern Sea Route said the general director of RUVDS Nikita Tsaplin. |
Technical support for stratospheric jumping, in particular, the selection of oxygen equipment, the development of electrical heating systems, the assembly and configuration of systems for monitoring jump indicators, radio communication systems, and other necessary equipment is carried out by the Stratonavtika aerospace laboratory.
The equipment developed by us and our colleagues from different Russian engineering companies has proven its performance at one of the most severe points of the Earth in terms of conditions. My next task, already on polar ice, will be to deploy the RUVDS server, which should help us ensure data transmission through our orbital picosatellites, since there is no communication except satellite. And this new experience, I hope, will help our followers not only master the Far North, but also continue to move beyond the "edge" of the Earth into space, "Denis Efremov emphasized. |
Arctic Launch Plan
Hosting-provider RUVDS will conduct an experiment on the deployment of server equipment in. To the Arctic The compact data center will be launched on the territory of the Barneo ice camp located in the immediate vicinity of the North Pole. The experiment starts in late March and early April 2024. The provider announced this on March 6, 2024.
The server will communicate with the RUVDS spacecraft, transmitting up-to-date telemetry through it. The hosting provider and specialists from Stratonavtika LLC, a technical partner of the project, will monitor the accuracy of the transmitted data and their quality. The information obtained will allow us to draw conclusions about the operation of server equipment in extreme conditions of a harsh natural environment and take initiatives to finalize the communication mechanisms used.
With this experiment, we continue to test the existing server hardware for strength. Our spacecraft, launched into orbit 2023 year, flies over the pole every 1.5 hours. This, unlike flying over a city, allows you to get a signal without any interference, "said Nikita Tsaplin, CEO of hosting provider RUVDS. |
The project is designed for the duration of the camp, which will be up to one month. Everyone will be able to observe the work of the Arctic data center - to simplify access to the information stored on it, RUVDS will launch a separate site.
