2024: Product Announcement

On March 12, 2024, startup Cognition Labs announced Devin, a specialized neural network capable of independently performing complex software development tasks. It is claimed to be the industry's first software engineer with artificial intelligence tools.

Compared to traditional code writing assistants, Devin has significantly more advanced capabilities. The new neural network is capable of planning and performing complex engineering tasks, learning over time and correcting errors. Devin can actively interact with the user: AI reports on the progress of work in real time, takes into account reviews, etc.

Comparison of Devin performance with other neural networks (Cognition Labs data)

Cognition Labs provided Devin with the necessary developer tools, including a shell, code editor and browser in an isolated computing environment. A neural network can independently master unfamiliar tools by analyzing related documentation. Devin is able to create complex web applications and add additional functions to them in response to user wishes. The neural network can also autonomously identify and fix errors in code databases, configure large language models, debug code and perform other complex operations.

Tests show that Devin solves 13.86% of complex problems on its own. This is significantly higher than other AI models, in which it averages 1.96%. In general, the new neural network is positioned as an "experienced teammate." You can set a particular task for Devin by giving commands in natural language.
