2024: Introduction of augmented reality technology in aircraft engine assembly begins

United Engine Corporation Rostec introduces advanced digital technologies when assembling aircraft engine assemblies and assemblies. The use of modern solutions, including devices, augmented reality optimizes production processes and improves product quality. Rostec announced this on April 10, 2024.

The pilot project is being implemented at the Rybinsk enterprise "UEC-Saturn" during the assembly of gas turbine engines (GTD). The solution is based on a combination of the domestic IKSAR software platform with augmented reality glasses and other types of mobile devices.

The aircraft engine assembler performs operating operations in augmented reality glasses, on the surface of which step-by-step instructions are displayed. Another participant in the process in the information system is the controller, who confirms the possibility of moving to the next block of work.

Thanks to the ICSAR software, it is possible to perform photo and video recording of the fact of the performed operations, structuring the digital trace of the assembly process. The set of actions performed in the system allows you to obtain all the necessary information for the automatic formation of a product assembly map.

The system keeps a record of the time for each operation, can track the load on employees and analyze their work on each product being produced. In addition, it allows, if necessary, to contact experts for advice directly from the workplace.

Digital technologies increase the speed of operations of both the employee himself, saving him from routine or paper tasks, and the speed of all assembly processes. In the future, this will contribute to the successful solution of large-scale tasks facing engine builders. The first stage of the project proved the effectiveness of the approaches being implemented, which allows us to move on. Already in 2024, the interface for the simultaneous joint work of collectors will be configured and integration with the information systems of the enterprise will be developed, - Evgeny Alekseev, director of digital transformation at UEC-Saturn, spoke about the results and prospects of the pilot project.
