2024: Creating a Digital Worker Double at Work

At the National Research University, ITMO created a digital double of a worker in production. Thanks to the new technology, it will be possible to reduce the number of industrial injuries and equipment breakdowns, the press service of the Platform of the National Technological Initiative (NTI) reported at the end of April 2024.

The system is based on sensors and software based on artificial intelligence (AI) to create digital profiles of workers and equipment. Light sensors mounted on workwear and equipment transmit data wirelessly to an information center. Based on them, the system analyzes the process and makes adjustments to it or makes its recommendations for optimizing and improving security.

The digital twin notifies workers of potentially hazardous areas, such as under a crane. This helps to avoid accidents and injuries, as well as production shutdowns. AI is also able to track the condition of equipment and predict breakdowns, which makes it possible to take measures in advance to prevent them, reduce downtime and increase production efficiency.

The technology is able to analyze data on the work of workers and optimize their tasks. This helps reduce the number of overdue projects and increase the speed of current tasks, the National Technology Initiative (NTI) Platform said in a statement. It also follows from it that artificial intelligence constantly monitors the state of the atmosphere in production and detects harmful substances, which also contributes to the creation and maintenance of a healthier and safer working environment.

According to the developers, the new system keeps automatic time records, is easily transferred from the helmet to the equipment, and also analyzes the state of the atmosphere.[1]
