In New York, an innovative solution for cyclists has appeared - the compact Clip gadget, which allows you to turn almost any bike into an electric one. This development of the American company Clip became known in early June 2024.

The device consists of two parts: an oblong "engine" attached to the front fork of the bicycle, and a remote control mounted on the steering wheel. According to the manufacturer, Clip takes only a minute to install and does not require the use of tools.

As the resource notes, TechCrunch"Engine" is equipped with a battery and a small roller that rotates the front wheel and creates a front-wheel drive effect. The remote allows you to activate the assist force of the engine or use regenerative braking to recharge the battery. There are two models to choose from: Commuter with a 96 Wh battery (range 7 km) and Explorer with a 192 Wh battery (range 10 km). The maximum speed on electric traction is 10 and 20 km/h, respectively.

The cost of the basic Commuter is $499 (about 44.3 thousand rubles), for Explorer they ask for $599 (about 53.2 thousand rubles). According to the developers, this is a good offer, given the high prices for ready-made e-bikes.

Due to its ease of installation and operation, Clip is positioned as the best option for those who want to revive old bicycles or switch to electric traction for short city trips inexpensively.

The authors of the startup noted that with a weight of 4 kg for Commuter and 4.5 kg for Explorer Clip is a portable friction drive. The battery charge lasts for about an hour of operation, and the maximum speed can be developed without pedaling. As Bangeman notes, the additional weight on the front wheel requires getting used to the new distribution of the center of gravity, but driving an electric bike with Clip is quite easy.^[1]
