Hydrogen peroxide

2023: Hydrogen peroxide production in Russia increased by 9% in 4 years

In 2023, approximately 113 thousand tons of hydrogen peroxide were produced in Russia. This is 4% more compared to the previous year, when the volume of output was estimated at 109 thousand tons. BusinesStat cites such data in a report submitted on March 27, 2024.

Hydrogen peroxide is used in many industries as a bleach, oxidant, disinfector and cleaner. One of the main applications is medicine, where the substance serves as an antiseptic, disinfectant and deodorant. Among the significant players in the domestic market are named PJSC Khimprom, PFC Update JSC, Tula Pharmaceutical Factory LLC, RFK JSC and Lega LLC.

The study says that in 2019, the production of hydrogen peroxide in Russia amounted to approximately 104 thousand tons, and the increase compared to the previous year was at around 12.5%. In 2020 and 2021, an increase of 2% and 3.3% followed, respectively - up to 106 thousand and 109 thousand tons. In 2022, against the background of the formed geopolitical situation, a slight decline was noted - by 0.4% on an annualized basis.

In general, in four years, from 2019 to 2023, the volume of hydrogen peroxide production in Russia increased by approximately 9%. Despite the economic and political challenges, analysts attribute a relatively stable level of output to the wide scope of the substance.

The report also said that hydrogen peroxide production in Russia is predominantly concentrated in the Volga Federal District. In 2019-2023, about 95% of such products were produced in the region. The increase in demand from the paper, textile and food industries stimulated the development of the domestic market. At the same time, the growth in the production of hydrogen peroxide in the Russian Federation was limited by a shortage of production capacities.[1]
