2024: Launch of ATMs with collection

In mid-June 2024, the British ATM network Link announced that it was testing a new generation of collection ATMs to which companies could hand over daily revenue. According to Cash Access UK, the first ATM of the new type is already up and running in Atherston (Warwickshire).

Amid the gradual closure of local bank branches in small towns and towns, new machines will be able to take over some of their functions and help small business owners, who often have to travel long distances to deposit cash into the bank.

The decline of the bank branch network left many people without vital services and, in particular, deprived small business owners of the ability to safely contribute daily revenue to the bank. A new option that allows you to make deposits directly through an ATM that works with several banks at once is an important innovation and a step towards people. Such changes could be important alongside the accelerated deployment of banking centres and post office banking.

The new ATMs have been developed in partnership with NCR Atleos and Note Machine and will be connected to the LINK network, a non-profit organisation that serves as the UK's main ATM network . This system has long allowed consumers to withdraw cash from ATMs that are not directly part of the network of the bank serving them, but the option of making deposits will be tested for the first time. Customers will be able to deposit cash into the accounts of banks such as Bank of Scotland, Barclays, Halifax, Lloyds, NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank, and the new ATM network will be led by Cash Access UK, funded by nine leading UK banks.[1]
