2024: Switching to SMS FW

Tele2 has completed the replacement of a foreign solution to protect SMS traffic with a domestic product. The company installed the SMS FW system from X-Labs. Thus, Tele2 has supplemented a similar module for analyzing voice traffic from the same supplier. The ability to simultaneously analyze two data streams allows you to build more effective protection of customers from fraudsters. As of June 2024, Tele2 blocks about 1.2 million fraudulent SMS and 1 million unauthorized calls per day. The provider announced this on June 14, 2024.

The introduction of the X-Labs technology solution allows us to implement a strategic plan 2023-2024. to switch to domestic products for real-time traffic analysis and counteract telecommunications fraud.

The domestic module for analyzing SMS traffic helps to block fraudulent mailings. As part of the fight against illegal mailings and social engineering, on average, about 1.2 million unauthorized SMS are blocked on the Tele2 network per day.

Despite the active use of instant messengers, subscribers continue to contact the SMS service to communicate and solve business problems. For this reason, this communication channel is still relevant for sending fraudulent SMS. For example, attackers send text messages to trick subscribers into sharing personal information. They encourage the client to follow the link leading to a malicious website in order to gain access by fraudsters to the subscriber's account. There are many other types of SMS scams, but they all have one goal - to force their victims to share sensitive information.

To protect subscribers in terms of voice traffic, Tele2 previously introduced the X-Labs module, which ensures compliance with the requirements of the law on the obligation of operators to connect to a single anti-fraud platform (FZ-319). This allowed the company to join the state system of IS "Antifrod." It provides traffic verification and blocking fraudulent calls with the substitution of a calling number disguised as Russian telecom operators, government agencies and financial institutions. The number of blocked calls is 1 million per day, and at the peaks of fraudulent activity reaches 1.5 million.

Using the development, Tele2 not only increases the security of its own customers, but also offers telecom operators of the Russian Federation verification of voice calls. Fraudulent activity often manifests itself simultaneously on SMS and voice traffic, so the ability to analyze two data streams at the same time allows you to build more effective protection.
