On the nature of electricity consumption not virtualized IT systems significantly differ from computer systems with virtualization. In the first case server processors the most part of day are loaded for 10-15%, and only in peak time their loading increases up to 60-80%. In data processing centers where the share of virtualization of servers (and their number, on the contrary, is reduced) is big, this indicator reaches 70-80%, at the same time it can be very changeable due to dynamic redistribution of loading. Engineers of Socomec UPS offered for equipment of the virtualized data processing centers a three-phase electric power supply system with high-discrete architecture. Power of this system can be increased in the range from 20 to 120 kVA by adding in parallel of the connected power modules providing a necessary power supply even in case of refusal one of them. It is possible to increase system power up to 240 kVA by means of consolidation of two modular installations.
In addition to flexibility, solutions of power supply for data processing centers also should have high operational readiness. Therefore adaptation of Modulys Green Power to everyday requirements of DPC and also routine maintenance can be carried out without its switching off, including thanks to function of automatic configuring, speed control of the integral fan and individual performance monitoring of air cooling. Besides, the scheme of reservation of components provided in the solution (the UPS, the charger, etc.) provides it lack of a uniform point of failure. In other words, whatever part of a system deteriorated, the unit will remain operable.
The modularity and discretization allow to reduce also total cost of ownership a system — it is required to make investments in the additional hardware of power supply not constantly, and only in case of specific need or for the solution of short-term tasks.
