2024: Product Announcement

At the end of June 2024, Honor announced at a conference in Shanghai a new functionality for AI-based smartphones that will protect users from myopia thanks to the AI Defocus Eye Protection system and detect AI deepfakes.

It is assumed that AI Defocus Eye Protection technology will turn smartphone displays into special "defocused glasses" that can reduce eye strain. According to the developers, this AI technology does not strain the lens so much and reduces the temporary myopia of users "by an average of 13 degrees after reading for 25 minutes, while for some users the maximum decrease reaches 75 degrees."

Another feature introduced, AI Deepfake Detection, allows you to authenticate users' faces during video calls to ensure that a person is not talking to a deepfake. The manufacturer says the Deepfake Detection AI system has been trained with "a large set of video and image data related to online fraud cases, enabling AI to perform image identification, verification and comparison within three seconds."

Honor CEO George Zhao believes AI is rapidly changing our lives and driving the smartphone industry forward, but most manufacturers have focused on developing cloud AI, forgetting other possibilities. "Embedded AI that understands us better than any other device offers unique opportunities to deliver services tailored to us and our preferences," Mr. Zhao believes.

By the end of June 2024, it is not known when exactly new functions based on artificial intelligence will appear on the company's smartphones and on which models.[1]
