2024: Establishing a Company

On July 1, 2024, it became known that the Viridian holding, which includes the Sapsan development group of companies, is expanding its scope of activity, entering the market for the production of road construction equipment. To do this, the group registered in the Moscow region joint-stock company "People's Mechanical Plant" (NMZ), which plans to produce special equipment.

According to Kommersant, the new structure is managed by Grintech LLC, owned by Alexander Shmakov, a shareholder of Viridian. The name of Narodny Mechanical Plant JSC coincides with the name of an existing company in Lytkarino, which produces loaders, tractors and other special equipment.

The representative of NMZ confirmed that persons associated with Sapsan Group acquired a 40% stake in the company, taking on obligations to invest in the development of the enterprise. The exact data on the shareholders of NMZ in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities were not disclosed.

Entry into the road construction equipment market may be due to the continued high share of imports in this sector. According to the Rosspetsmash association, in the first quarter of 2024, Russian factories produced such equipment in the amount of 20 billion rubles, which is 1.4% more than in the same period of 2023.

Dmitry Babansky, an analyst at SBS Consulting, notes that there are niches on the market with demanded equipment, where the share of imports is significant. These include, in particular, hydraulic excavators and auto graders. In addition, there are segments where imported products, although they do not occupy a large share in monetary terms, are significantly represented in the total volume of consumption - for example, rollers and graders.

Rosspetsmash emphasizes that the share of Russian manufacturers in the domestic market of excavators, road rollers, front and telescopic loaders is estimated at 3-10%. The dominant position in these segments is occupied by Chinese companies, which, due to the scale of production and state support for exports, offer low prices.^[1]
