2024: Spain introduces digital passports to view porn

A report published by Spain's Ministry of Justice in January 2024 said seven in ten young people in the country aged 13 to 17 regularly watch porn. And about a third say that this is their only source of sexual education. Spanish children usually watch material for adults ages 9 to 11 for the first time. It is assumed that the developed system will partially solve the problem.

This age verification technology is one of the most necessary and effective measures to prevent minors from accessing pornography, says José Luis Escrivá, Minister of Digital Transformation and Public Services of Spain.

The system will generate so-called "certificates of majority" that users can use to view pornographic sites. Initially, it is planned to issue 30 such certificates with a validity period of one month. After this time, the identities will be updated. The platform involves two-factor identification: this will eliminate the likelihood of children and adolescents accessing porn resources through computer devices owned by adults.^[1]
