At the end of June 2024, Unistellar introduced smart binoculars with augmented reality technology. Devices called Envision were developed in conjunction with Nikon based on the Porro system.

According to the developers, the gadget provides a 10-fold increase. These devices combine high-quality optics with augmented reality (AR) functions, which allow you to overlay contextual information directly on the screen at the command of the user.

Unistellar unveils smart binoculars with augmented reality technology

Binoculars integrate with a smartphone through a special application and provide instant access to an extensive database of maps and contextual information, so users can explore both the night sky and terrestrial landscapes.

Envision binoculars offer four different modes: 3D map overlay intelligent reconnaissance mode, controlled navigation mode with star maps for night use and day landmark maps, general target lock mode to capture any target and show it to a companion, and classic optical mode.

The battery provides 1,000 binoculars on a single charge or five hours of continuous use. According to the manufacturer, smart binoculars have a diameter of 50 mm, a field of view of 6 °, a diaphragm diameter of 5 mm, glass with a multilayer coating of BAC4. AR technologies take into account the position of 1,000 astronomical objects of interest and 200,000 stars, as well as more than a million different ground targets, so that binoculars are able to identify hundreds of thousands of trails, shelters, water sources and caves. The developers believe that such binoculars will be useful to anyone, from amateur astronomers to lovers of outdoor adventures[1]
