2024: Introduction of Adaptive Water Chemistry Management System

Scientists of NRU "MPEI" have developed a system of adaptive control of the water-chemical regime for existing and newly built energy facilities of a new generation. The university announced this on July 10, 2024.

The control system is universal in the entire range of operating loads, including the start-up modes of the power unit. At the moment, the system has already been put into pilot operation and is being tested.

The system of adaptive control of the water-chemical regime makes it possible to significantly improve the process of regulating chemical-technological parameters, thereby increasing the level of reliability and safety of operation of power units at thermal and nuclear power plants.

The introduction of the development of our scientists will reduce the number of violations of water and chemical regimes and increase the reliability of energy equipment as a whole. This system not only meets high quality standards, but also contributes to the economic efficiency of energy facilities, reducing operating costs and increasing their reliability, "said Nikolai Rogalev, rector of MPEI.

The developed system is adapted to changing disturbing effects using neural networks, which makes it possible to increase the efficiency of controlling the water-chemical regime.

The introduction of such systems at power facilities will help reduce the number of violations of the water chemistry by 5-10 times, as well as reduce the growth rate of deposits by 50%. These indicators are achieved by applying an adaptation unit to the disturbance. The adaptation unit includes a program for calculating compensator coefficients based on neural network training. This program ensures that the system is ready for full operation.

The system of adaptive control of the water-chemical regime for energy facilities was developed by scientists of the Department of Theoretical Foundations of Heat Engineering named after M.P. Vukalovich NRU "MPEI."
