In early July 2024, in one of the clinics in Bashkiria, the South Korean robot surgeon Cuvis-joint began to be used for the first time to perform operations on the joints and knees.

According to Bashinform, the new robotic complex was installed in the clinic of the Bashkir State Medical University (BSMU). This is the third operating robot surgeon in the robotic center of this medical institution.

In the
Bashkir clinic, a South Korean robot surgeon began to be used for joint and knee operations

The main advantage of Cuvis-joint is the exceptional accuracy in joint replacement operations. The robotic system is capable of forming a bed of bone tissue for a prosthesis with submillimeter accuracy, which almost completely eliminates the possibility of error and minimizes the risk of postoperative complications.

The process of robotic knee replacement involves several steps. First, a three-dimensional model of the joint is created based on computed tomography data. Then, during the operation, the surgeon accesses the joint and combines its landmarks with the key points laid in the robot program. After that, Cuvis-joint independently performs resection of the affected tissues and creates channels for attaching the endoprosthesis.

The use of a robot surgeon allows you to significantly reduce the duration of the operation and minimize blood loss. In addition, robotic technology provides faster and less painful postoperative recovery for patients. Valentin Pavlov, rector of the Belarusian State Medical University and director of the clinic, noted:

Today we have introduced a completely new technology in the healthcare of the republic - this is a robot surgeon who works on our own computer images. Error and the human factor are absolutely excluded.

The robotic center of the BSMU clinic has significant experience in using such technologies. Over 6.5 years of work, more than 3,500 operations using robotic systems have been performed here.[1]
