2024: UserGate Implementation E3000

UserGate ensured the protection of the transmission network data and its entire network perimeter of PJSC Permenergosbyt"." The key decision in the project was firewall the next generation. UserGate E3000 UserGate announced this on July 11, 2024.

Previously, the Cisco ASA 5200 firewall was used to protect the network perimeter at Permenergosbyt PJSC. As this solution became obsolete, the company intensified preparations for migration to modern equipment, while considering solutions from foreign manufacturers. However, by the time the project began, the initial plans had lost their relevance in connection with the beginning of the sanctions campaigns of Western manufacturers against Russian customers.

Under these conditions, the management of PJSC Permenergosbyt decided to implement a Russian solution to prevent network threats and protect the perimeter. The customer considered hardware-based solutions with clustering support, corresponding to the classes UTM (Unified threat management) and NGFW (Next-Generation Firewall).

The project at PJSC Permenergosbyt is an excellent example of import substitution practice. The company has not just switched to using a domestic solution. She used the migration project in order to significantly update her protection system, bring it into compliance with modern requirements, increase the stability of her infrastructure to the constantly growing intensity of cyber attacks, "said Roman Filippov, UserGate Partner Manager.

As a contractor, a system integrator was involved in the implementation of the project - an authorized partner of UserGate, CJSC IVS-Networks. Its experts, together with Permenergosbyt specialists, analyzed the tasks of ensuring the protection of the customer's network perimeter. The solution that most fully corresponded to them was recognized by UserGate E3000, a server complex focused on application in the infrastructure of medium and large enterprises with a number of users from 1000, which provides reliable protection against all kinds of network attacks, and also allows you to analyze and filter traffic on content, control Internet applications, blocking dangerous scripts and applications, protection against viruses, spam and other threats.

The final decision to implement UserGate E3000 based on the results of piloting, during which the main capabilities of the firewall were tested in real conditions. The customer's specialists got acquainted with the interface of the system, the features of settings and administration. In addition, during the pilot tests, the enterprise network segment for public services (DMA) was configured, the organization of internal users' access to the Internet using LDAP authorization was checked, as well as VPN access to the internal network from outside the protected perimeter.

The 24-month UserGate E3000 experience has shown the reliability and efficiency of the solution. Based on its results, Permenergosbyt PJSC plans to introduce another UserGate firewall. It will be used in a separate data center, which the company intends to deploy as an additional switching point for its systems with external Internet services.
