2024: Opening a furniture factory by 3D printing

At the end of June 2024, the opening of the first factory in Russia for the production of furniture by the method of 3D printing from secondary raw materials took place in the Moscow region. This was reported in the Russian Environmental Operator (REO). The new enterprise is located on the territory of the Innopolis technopark and covers an area of ​ ​ more than 5,000 square meters. Investments in the project amounted to about 1.5 billion rubles, which makes it one of the largest in the field of waste processing and additive technologies in the country.

According to Izvestia, the company founded by Trashback will specialize in the manufacture of interior items and furniture from secondary plastic and wood-polymer composite. In addition, the plant plans to produce industrial 3D printers working with granular materials. The production capacity of the plant is expected to be up to 10,000 units of furniture per month, which will meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly products on the Russian market.

Trashback CEO Alexei Maslov noted that the production of wood-polymer composite by 3D printing is an innovative and promising area for Russia. He stressed that this material is 70% wood flour, thanks to which it has the texture and aroma of natural wood. Maslov also added that the company plans to invest an additional 500 million rubles in the development of new materials and technologies for 3D printing in the next two years, which will expand the range of products.

Denis Butsaev, General Director of the Russian Environmental Operator, took part in the opening ceremony of the plant. He described the material used for printing furniture as a unique development for the country, noting that such technologies had not previously been used in Russia. The use of secondary raw materials for furniture will reduce the load on the environment and increase the efficiency of waste processing. Butsaev also stressed that the opening of the plant is an important step in the implementation of the national project "Ecology" and contributes to the achievement of goals to increase the share of waste processing to 50% by 2030.^[1]
