2024: Start-up of electron beam welding unit for large parts and assemblies

At the Rybinsk enterprise UEC-Saturn, an installation for electron beam welding of large parts and assemblies was put into operation. This equipment is designed for the production of body parts of high-capacity gas turbine engines, in particular GTD-110M. The UEC announced this on July 17, 2024.

The installation was designed and manufactured by the Tomsk company according to the terms of reference UEC-Saturn. Domestic equipment has a number of advantages in comparison with the previously used installation. This model allows you to reduce the manufacturing time of body parts and ensure high quality welded joint.

One of Rostec's solutions for the energy complex is the GTD-110M high-power gas turbine. This is a Russian development that will allow import substitution of foreign generating equipment. GTD-110M is mass-produced, the first turbine is already installed at the new Udarnaya TPP in the Krasnodar Territory. The need for the Russian market alone is several dozen units of such equipment. To meet demand, we plan to launch up to four turbines annually. For this, production capacities are already expanding, - said in Rostec.

This equipment allows welding of body parts with wall thickness up to 100 mm and weight up to 10 tons. The welding process is controlled by one welder-operator. A single control panel for both the power unit and the electromechanical complex allows the specialist to move between the portholes for visual control, and the presence of three high-definition video cameras - to monitor the entire process and inspect the weld after welding.

When planning the terms of reference, we took into account all comments on the operation of similar equipment used in UEC-Saturn. The installation was successfully tested. We have welded the GTD-110M compressor drum - the quality of the joint meets the technical requirements, no defects have been identified. The manufacture of high-power turbines is GTD-110M one of the priorities for UEC-Saturn. In this regard, we regularly work to improve the technological preparation of production, "said Aleksei Polyakov, chief welder of UEC-Saturn.
