On July 19, 2024, it became known that Russian developers presented an innovative Ivolga unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with a new generation of domestic artificial intelligence. The main feature of the drone is its ability to automatically follow a person at a given distance without using a ground control station, which greatly simplifies its operation.

According to reports, the TASS drone successfully passed all the necessary tests on Sakhalin. Drone developed by the design bureau "Stratim" together with Elvis, which produces the Skif chip using a 28-nm process technology, providing high performance.

Representatives of Stratim emphasized the uniqueness of the project, noting that until that moment drones with artificial intelligence on domestic chips had not taken to the air and had not passed such tests.

The uniqueness of the Oriole lies in the use of a domestic microprocessor chip that allows you to launch a neural network directly on board the drone. This ensures that all calculations are performed during the flight with minimal delay, which was not previously available for drones artificial intelligence on Russian chips.

The Orioles principle of operation is based on the use of a neural network that identifies a person in the frame and instructs the drone to approach it a certain distance. After that, the drone automatically maintains a given distance, following the person regardless of the direction of his movement, ensuring flight stability.

The Oriole demonstration flight took place at the Fluffy airfield as part of a specialized laboratory for artificial intelligence. The developers emphasize that up to this point in Russia there were no chips that could be installed on board the drone to implement such functions.[1]
