2024: Introduction of automated QCD into the educational process
In 2023, the Film and Television Institute (GITR) and Tekom joined forces for integration into the educational process of the university of automated TCD. Tekom announced this on July 30, 2024.
Implementation of ORBOX QC system already brought visible results: students mastered the approach to file control, improved the quality of their video works and gained practical experience with tools that are used in the media industry.
So that students learn to create content that meets high technical requirements of modern video production, GITR decided to implement automated file control system. For this, the university chose the ORBOX QC system.
{{quote 'GITR seeks to prepare graduates who are ready to work in the modern media industry. We were looking for a way to automate OTK and teach students to check the technical component of their work as they do on Russian TV channels and streaming platforms. ORBOX is a tool that allows us to train students at the professional level, using the methods and technologies used in real work, "said Dmitry Bobrov, head of special projects at GITR.}}
GITR students undergo OTK within the framework of the calendar plan, and part of it is allocated time during the installation and rendering period (post-production). Together with This integrates ORBOX into the Installation Practice curriculum. The simplest way to interact with the system is offered for passing the QCD ORBOX. On educational computers in computer classrooms, folders have been created in which students copy their work. ORBOX monitors these folders and, when new files appear, takes away they are checked, after which a report with results appears in the results folder analysis. If the verification of any parameters fails, the author of the content can always make corrections and try to go through the QCD again using ORBOX.
In the first courses of study, a standard set is applied to student work checks for passing the technical control department, namely compliance with technical characteristics of the file, volume standards and correct work with video in post-production time (absence of microplanes, stop frames, black fields, etc.).
In senior years, the test suite is expanding and allows you to check not only technical parameters, but also correctly building the process of work on audiovisual a work for all members of the film crew. To check the correctness of the working the process uses tests that determine:
- Video stream parameter (video bitrate);
- Black and white signal level parameter in operation;
- The presence of noise in the video;
- The presence of noise in the sound phonogram;
- No sound in operation.
According to Pavel Platonov, head of the information and technical department of GITR, students themselves are interested in achieving the maximum quality of their work and show increased attention to this topic.
At an early stage, the experience of introducing an automated QCD system showed its own effectiveness. About 200 were conducted in the first week of ORBOX use checks, then their number rose to 2500. Result passing the QCD in the first months of use rose from 2% to 40%.
According to students, the introduction of ORBOX made it possible to plan the shooting in advance process taking into account technical requirements, establish communications within the film crew and in practice master some competencies of related professions.
