2024: Network Launch

On August 8, 2024, Singapore-based telecommunications company Singtel announced the launch of Southeast Asia's first commercial communications network with quantum protection technology. The National Quantum-Safe Network Plus (NQSN +) system is designed to protect enterprises from quantum threats.

Against the background of the development of quantum computing, traditional security methods become obsolete and lose efficiency. Therefore, new defenses are required that can withstand quantum attacks. First of all, as Singtel notes, this applies to critical information services in the banking sector, health care and public services.

Asia's first commercial quantum communications network launched

The Singtel Quantum-Safe Network (QSN) supports various network devices and information security equipment, providing ease of integration for enterprises looking to protect their systems from next-generation cyber attacks. The platform also provides an opportunity to expand quantum defenses to new uses and applications such as identity services and mobile services.

While quantum computing is in its early stages of development, it is rapidly gaining momentum and we want to make sure Singapore is ready for that. We are committed to providing enterprises with the appropriate skills and knowledge so that they can take the necessary steps to protect their critical systems from potential quantum threats in the future, says Ng Tian Chong, CEO of Singtel.

Singtel also announces the organization of a three-tier program aimed at simplifying the implementation of quantum defenses. It includes workshops to raise customer awareness, test stands for evaluation capabilities and compatibility of equipment, as well as real tests for obtaining information about network behavior.[1]
