2024: A state program for the development of technologies for the production of veterinary drugs is being launched in Russia. 13 billion rubles will be spent on it

The Russian government is launching a new state program for the development of technologies for the production of veterinary drugs, for the implementation of which it is planned to allocate ₽13 billion. This became known on July 31, 2024 from the draft resolution developed by the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.

According to the Pharmaceutical Bulletin, the new initiative will be implemented within the framework of the subprogram "Development of technologies for the production of medicines for veterinary use," which will become part of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program for the Development of Agriculture for 2017-2030.

A state program for the development of technologies for the production of veterinary drugs with a budget of 13 billion rubles is being launched in Russia

Project financing involves a combined approach: ₽1 billion will be allocated from the federal budget, and the remaining ₽12 billion is planned to be raised through private investment. The main goal of the program is to significantly increase the level of provision of domestic veterinary drugs by 2031.

According to the document, by the specified date it is planned to achieve 70% of the provision of chemical-pharmaceutical veterinary drugs and 47% - vaccines for animals from the declared need of the livestock sector. This should help strengthen the country's food security and reduce dependence on imported animal medicines.

The draft resolution provides for a number of measures to implement the subprogramme. In particular, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education are instructed to ensure the implementation of measures not only for the production of veterinary drugs, but also for the development of agricultural machinery and equipment.

Regional public authorities are encouraged to provide measures to support the implementation of both sub-programmes in the field. In addition, various funds supporting scientific, scientific, technical and innovative activities, as well as other development institutions, were invited to assist in the implementation of complex scientific and technical projects within the framework of these initiatives.[1]
