2024: Sentence - 5 years in prison for embezzlement of 4.8 billion rubles

On August 13, 2024, it became known that the former top managers of the ruined Mezhtopenergobank Igor Grabovoy and Elena Litvinova received prison sentences for large-scale fraud. They were found guilty of embezzlement from the named organization of more than 4.8 billion rubles.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, Grabovoy served as deputy chairman of the board of Mezhtopenergobank, and Litvinova as head of the credit department. According to the investigation, these persons are directly related to "theft of bank funds under the pretext of lending to legal entities and individuals." The damage to the bank was caused by issuing unsecured loans to fictitious firms.

Initially, Grabovoy and Litvinova were involved in the theft case as witnesses, but subsequently the investigation concluded that both were directly involved in the fraud. They were charged with withdrawing a little more than 800 million rubles from the bank, and after studying the financial documentation and conducting a number of examinations, the amount of damage caused by the accused increased many times and amounted to over 4.8 billion rubles.

A criminal case on multibillion-dollar embezzlement from Mezhtopenergobank was opened on September 1, 2017 by the Internal Affairs Directorate for the Central District. Moscow Moreover, one of his first defendants was the actual owner and chairman of the bank's board, Yuri Shutov. He left Russia and was put on the international wanted list through the line. Law enforcement agencies believe that at least 11.9 billion rubles could have been withdrawn from Mezhtopenergobank through the accounts of firms controlled by ex-banker Shutov abroad. Grabovoy and Litvinova, according to the investigation, acted in the interests of Shutov. As part of the case, Grabov was sentenced to five years in a general regime colony. In turn, Litvinova was sentenced to four years.[1]
