Operator of share electric scooters MTS Yurent (part of the MTS ecosystem) on August 15, 2024 presented its own kargobike for courier delivery. The device was called "Jurent Kubo," it was developed by MTS Jurent in cooperation with Eleven, which has been developing solutions in the field of micromobile transport for more than four years .

Kargobike will primarily be used for leasing to courier services in Moscow. MTS Jurent CEO Ivan Touringe, in a conversation with TAdviser, noted that now there is no functional and safe transport on the market designed specifically for couriers, "so we decided to do our own."

What couriers now use is mainly general-purpose devices adapted by the couriers themselves for their tasks. Denis Bogdanov, co-founder of Eleven (head office is based in Belarus), says that such devices are uncontrollable, so often couriers accelerate to dangerous speeds on them. One of the key differences between Jurent Kubo and them, he calls controllability.

Kargobikes are equipped with an IoT module and are able to transfer data to the server, which allows you to track their work. They have a built-in speed limit of up to 25 km/h, and also reduce speed in slow zones in the same way as share scooters. In this case, the device cannot be "flashed."

In addition, Jurent Kubo was created taking into account the courier experience - so that the end user would be comfortable. For example, it has a special fit. The device is equipped with a moisture-resistant seat, a protective screen, and also has a configuration option with a "blanket" for wind protection and additional heating. Kargobike is adapted for operation, including in winter, and it uses special rubber suitable for adverse weather conditions. The battery it is equipped with is designed for 100 km of mileage. At the same time, it is possible to use an additional replaceable battery.

MTS Jurent clarified to TAdviser that Jurent Kubo is being developed completely in Russia, and is still being produced in China. But work is underway to create it from those solutions that can be completely localized in Russia.

As of August, Jurent Kubo was produced as part of a test batch in order to test various hypotheses related to its design and performance, to obtain feedback from couriers to refine the device for mass production.

MTS Yurent estimates that now the courier transport market has 10-15 thousand bicycles in Russia, and expects that on the horizon of three years it will reach 50 thousand.

At the same time, regulation will be tightened, the quality of service will increase and the price of courier transport will increase, so couriers will actively rent, and not buy devices. This year we are launching a pilot with about 100 kargobikes, we will collect feedback from couriers to decide whether we will continue to scale in this segment of mobility, says Ivan Touringe.

MTS Jurent told TAdviser that the company is negotiating the use of new devices with the largest companies using courier delivery, and has already handed them Jurent Kubo for testing.

In addition to courier services, the new device will also be used for the logistics of MTS Jurent itself - for transporting scooter batteries. For 2 years, the company has been gradually switching to electric vehicles for reloading scooters in the city, using scooters with special battery boxes for this. The kargobike will allow you to transport batteries more comfortably and even safer, being equipped with a special case.

As of mid-2024, MTS Yurent operates a fleet of more than 150 thousand electric scooters in 175 cities of Russia. Since the beginning of 2024, the number of trips on the platform has grown by 70% and exceeded 50 million.

The revenue of MTS Jurent (Shering Technologies LLC), according to the database of legal entities Kontur. Focus, in 2023 amounted to 5.1 billion rubles, an increase of 172%, and the revenue of its founding company, Yurentbayk.Ru, over the same period increased by 61%, to 3.3 billion rubles.
