2024: Appointment as the new commander of the Long-Range Aviation of the Russian Federation

In July 2024, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a personnel reshuffle in the leadership of the country's Aerospace Forces (VKS ). Major General Sergei Kuvaldin became the new commander of Long-Range Aviation.

Previously, he served as the chief of staff of this unit. He also led the 43rd center for combat use and retraining of flight personnel.

Long-range aviation, now commanded by Kuvaldin, is an important component of Russia's strategic nuclear forces. It includes strategic missile carriers Tu-95MS, Tu-160 and long-range bombers Tu-22M3. These aircraft are capable of carrying both nuclear and conventional weapons, including long-range cruise missiles.[1]
