2024: AMD bought ZT Systems for $4.9 billion

On August 19, 2024, AMD announced an agreement to acquire server manufacturer ZT Systems. The $4.9 billion deal is expected to help strengthen the position of Nvidia the leading GPU-based accelerator developer for systems. artificial intelligence

ZT Systems specializes in the supply of infrastructure solutions for hyperscalers. The company is headquartered in Secocus in New Jersey. ZT Systems has extensive experience designing and deploying AI platforms for compute and storage intensive computing.

The acquisition of ZT Systems is the next major step in our long-term AI strategy to deliver model and inference training solutions that can be quickly deployed at scale to cloud and enterprise customers, said AMD Chairman and CEO Lisa Su.

Under the terms of the agreement, of the total amount of $4.9 billion, cash will account for 75%, securities - the remaining 25%. After the deal closes, ZT Systems will join AMD's Data Center Solutions business group. ZT Systems CEO Frank Zhang will lead the manufacturing business, and Doug Huang, president of this company, will lead the design and customer support units. At the same time, they will report to AMD Executive Vice President Forrest Norrod. As of mid-August 2024, the acquired company has about 2,500 employees. After the merger, roughly 1,000 of them will move to AMD. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025, subject to required regulatory approvals.[1]
