2024: Market Entry

At the end of July 2024, the California startup Vayu Robotics introduced a courier robot called One. This car can follow store employees during order collection, and then independently deliver goods, moving along city streets at a speed of about 30 km/h.

A feature of the One platform is a special machine vision system that does not require lidars and other expensive components to operate. Instead, the Vayu Sense unit is used, which combines affordable CMOS image sensors with modern computer imaging techniques. This patented technology is claimed to be superior in capabilities to conventional RGB cameras and LiDAR sensors. The Vayu Sense module is responsible for high-resolution vision functions, depth sensing, object detection, and the ability to operate efficiently in difficult conditions.

Another component of the robotic platform is the basic artificial intelligence model for the autonomous robotics Vayu Drive. She is trained using both simulated and real-world data. This eliminates the need for high-precision maps and localization tools. The system processes various data, including images, instructions, and route information, issuing control commands.

The One machine is an electrically driven four-wheel capsule. Its dimensions are 1 × 1.8 × 0.67 m. The robot can move on roads, as well as along bicycle paths and sidewalks. On one charge of the battery pack, the cart is able to cover a distance of up to 113 km. Upon reaching the destination, the car opens the side door and retrieves the desired bag of goods using a robotic hand. Up to 45 kg of cargo is placed in the inner compartment.[1]
