2024: Creation of a chip testing center for 1 billion rubles
All-Russian Research Institute of Metrology named after D. I. Mendeleev (VNIIM) in August 2024 announced the launch of a project to create a new design center for testing microcircuits and electronic equipment. The project, the cost of which is estimated at more than ₽1 billion, will be implemented on the basis of the institute in the city of Lomonosov, which is part of St. Petersburg.
According to Vedomosti, ₽84,6 million were allocated for the development of design estimates for the creation of the center. The center itself is planned to be created within the framework of the state program "Development of the electronic and radio-electronic industry," for which the federal budget for 2024 and 2025 provides for allocations in the amount of ₽126,3 billion and ₽19,7 billion, respectively. The documentation is expected to be ready by February 15, 2025.
VNIIM confirms that the new center will become an important element of the national system of metrological support and standardization of radioelectronic equipment, as well as microwave microelectronics. The center will include laboratories to research materials used in the microelectronic industry, such as special gases and organic materials. Tests will be carried out not only for finished products, but also for materials, which will ensure comprehensive control at all stages of production.
According to the procurement documentation, the new center will be equipped with modern equipment for testing digital microcircuits, semiconductors and high-voltage products. The estimated cost of this equipment will be ₽640 million. A laboratory for gas analysis using high-precision chromatographs and gas analyzers will also be created, the total cost of which is estimated at ₽472 million. As a result, this will significantly improve the quality of control over the production of microcircuits in Russia.[1]
