The Modeling and Digital Twins company (MCD JSC) on August 21, 2024 announced the development of the SmartGranum system to support decision-making to optimize the operation of equipment and technological processes of mining and processing plants and metallurgical enterprises . SmartGranum allows you to more efficiently manage production processes and optimize the operating modes of the equipment, including by automatically detecting its overload and underload.

According to the company, there have long been classic decision support systems on the market that form recommendations to maintain an optimal technological process based on statistical models. They collect data in production and provide dispatchers with the information necessary for the correct operation of the equipment. The human factor plays an important role in the operation of such systems, since the operator makes the final decision on the application of certain recommendations. This can lead to a number of problems associated with the need to perform a large number of actions.

The next level of development of such systems are optimized process control systems (APC). They allow you to create data sets based on statistics obtained from production, including for working with deviations, and with their help optimize technological production modes. Their fundamental difference from decision-making systems is the ability to fully automate the execution of tasks under certain conditions. It is enough for the operator to simply set boundaries and periodically track the criteria.

SmartGranum is a next-generation advanced management system that combines the functionality of a decision support system and an APC system. It is based on the technology of digital twins based on modeling.

SmartGranum allows you to collect and process existing data on the operation of equipment, as well as fill in the missing data. The data source for SmartGranum is calibrated mathematical dynamic models. They allow you to identify problems during the modeling stage and develop optimization algorithms for control systems.

SmartGranum consists of several components:

  • Decision Support System (Advisor) that provides advice on how to work with the equipment. SmartGranum gives the operator recommendations on the operation of the equipment - for example, change the setpoint. After that, the operator independently enters them into SCADA and makes a decision on process control.
  • Advanced control system (Autopilot), which automatically transmits the setpoint to the SCADA system level. It is enough for the manager to enter and apply correction factors. Next, SmartGranum will work independently, automatically controlling the work process.
  • A process simulation system (Imitator) that fully follows the process chain at the enterprise. This function allows the technologist to get a calculation for each unit without conducting experiments on real equipment. It is enough to change the necessary parameters, and the mathematical model will perform the calculation on its own.
