Sibsteklo will use the neural network for the production of glass containers

Customers: Siberian Glass (Sibsteklo)

Product: R&D

Project date: 2024/08

2024: R&D Agreement

Siberian Glass LLC and Novosibirsk State University signed a cooperation agreement on August 28, 2024. The document was signed by the general director of the enterprise Anton More and the rector of NSU, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor, Ph.D. N. Mikhail Fedoruk.

Interaction involves R&D for Sibstekl, in particular, the development and creation by NSU of an unparalleled software and hardware control and measurement complex with a "digital assistant" to the glass forming machine operator (SPM) - a module for analyzing photo and video images, graphic analysis of thermographs through neural networks.

According to the President of RATM Holding Eduard Taran, Sibsteklo demonstrates its commitment to high quality standards, without reducing the level for many years. So, since 2015, the number of inspection machines monitoring the parameters of glass containers has more than doubled in glass complexes. In turn, the digital assistant will assist the SFM operator: systematizing a huge array of information, will allow him to timely determine the defect in the formation of a glass drop and take measures to eliminate its cause with minimal production losses.

A complex of cameras located in the area of the drop segment at the exit from the feeder will create a three-dimensional image and a thermal profile for each of them, which the neural network will then compare with the databases, revealing the likelihood of obtaining a defective product, - explained Anton More.

According to Eduard Taran, gradually the emphasis in the relationship between business and higher education, taking into account the needs and capabilities of the parties, is shifting to the applied sphere.

NSU has tremendous research potential, - said Eduard Taran. - The university is ready to perform practical tasks, responding to the requests of market leaders, including participating in the search for effective and reasonable solutions in the interests of the glass industry, digitizing them. Today, working with Big Data is one of the key tools to strengthen the competitiveness of industrial companies that affect processes and results. Thus, the tandem with universities contributes to accelerating the growth rates of enterprises in the real sector of the economy - reducing losses, ensuring high-quality product characteristics and increasing productivity.
