2024: Product Announcement
In late August 2024, Renata Medical unveiled the first-of-its-kind growing Minima stent designed to correct vascular malformations in newborns, infants and young children. These stents are supposed to grow with the children, eliminating the need for severe repeat surgeries.
The Minima stent is designed to correct aortic and pulmonary artery stenosis, which increases stress on the heart and without treatment can lead to the development of heart failure and even death. The Minima stent is installed during minimally invasive surgery by injecting through a vein or artery into the groin or neck, so that the child needs to be hospitalized for only one day. In the future, as the child grows, the stent can be expanded without removing it from the vessel, and these operations will also be minimally invasive and do not require long-term hospitalization. The design of the new vascular stent is such that even with gradual expansion, it retains sufficient rigidity to keep the narrowed vessel open.
The results of clinical studies showed that the Minima stent effectively eliminated stenosis in 97.6% of cases. Patients examined did not require additional surgery within 6 months of stent implantation. Studies have also demonstrated the safety of the stent, as no serious side effects associated with stent placement were reported in patients within 6 months of follow-up.
Registration of the Minima stent will significantly affect the therapy of the most vulnerable patients with heart disease, that is, babies and young children, Dr. Evan Zan is convinced. - The emergence of a minimally invasive stent expanding as the child grows is a monumental achievement in this field of surgery.[1] |
