2024: OMK Market online store

The OMK industrial group has been developing a service to sale metal rolling for B2B - Internet a store "" for several years. OMK Market The peculiarity of the project is that it has become part of a large family of the OMK Group's digital product ecosystem with the prospect of creating integrated systems. This was announced on September 13, 2024 by the company, a RDN Group Russian web integrator.

Metal rolling

As reported, with the launch of the OMK Market online store, the company solved several problems at once: it implements a typical metal rental from presence in the secondary market, optimized the process of selling products for customers, transferring them to independent service, and redistributed part of the resources to work with large partners.

It took 4 months from preliminary study of the architecture to the MVP version. The technology partner of the project was the RDN Group web integrator team, specializing in complex and high-load projects. At the start, five functional units were implemented:

  • Product catalog. Metal products that are available are displayed online.
  • Warehouse information. Up-to-date information on the company's warehouses.
  • A wide range of filters. Selection of products according to the specified criteria. The client got the opportunity to select products by name and characteristics, broken down by warehouse, and these are tens of thousands of combinations.
  • Internal calculator. The calculation of dimensions and weight of products is carried out on the basis of parameters within the service itself according to the initial data from the accounting system. The ability to calculate goods in tons, meters, pieces, sheets, packs and rolls.
  • Basket. Basket of goods and a single personal account.

The online store allows the client to quickly place an order from the desired department and automatically receive the final account by e-mail in a matter of seconds or download it yourself in his personal account. Thanks to the integration of the site with the 1C: Integrated automation system, the customer can reserve products and receive delivery. Operational control remained with the sales manager. OMK Group employees have the ability to manage all operations through an administrative account: managers and managers track the status of all orders and the stages at which they are located. The work process for employees remained the same, but the scale and speed of work changed.

The service has a calculator that automatically calculates the cost of products added to the basket, taking into account the selected meter/tons/pieces.

At first glance, this simple functionality optimizes the operating load on the sales manager, since after creation, the order can be sent for shipment without making adjustments to the item.

The basic functionality of the online store was implemented, which makes OMK Market easy for customers. This is achieved due to the catalog with filters, which was prepared specifically for the characteristics of rolled metal, as well as convenient search by site and current prices. The developers have compiled priority characteristics for sorting by each of the sections, and also put the characteristics into filters that are convenient to use. Analysis of user behavior on the site made it possible to implement a convenient UI/UX design.

Technical features:

In the process of implementing the project, functionality appeared that distinguishes OMK Market from other online stores in the industry, the RDN Group noted.

Often, the customer's supply department and the project itself can be located in different cities or there are several projects in different regions of Russia. To implement the functionality of a through filter for warehouses, which such services do not have, technological features were laid in the project architecture in advance. Based on customer experience, the filter allows you to select product shipping warehouses without reference to the region. By geolocation, the system determines the default warehouses, assigns them to the desired region and immediately substitutes them to the desired warehouses.

The success of the development of the project can be considered the results of the 2023 implementations, namely, regular ordering in the online store and the growth of the customer base. 43% of customers who first placed an order in an online store place repeated orders. On average, one customer creates 5 orders per month.

told Vladislav Bereznyakov, head of the development direction of the OMK online store

According to OMK, more than 1,500 customers have already become regular buyers of the service. The development of the online store was implemented in conjunction with the RDN Group.

The online store is part of a large family of digital products of the OMK group. Over 5 years of continuous growth, companies have introduced 18 integrated user products and 14 technical services into the ecosystem, which perform technical functions for both internal work and external user. The created template locator on Twig is written specifically for the entire ecosystem of digital services of the OMK group: this allows frontend developers to work on single components, backend integration facilitates the entry of another developer, the RDN Group said.

The company's immediate plans include the creation of a progressive and more functional resource based primarily on user preferences and user experience testing. The design of the OMK Market online store will be changed within the framework of a single design system of digital services, and a delivery calculator will be developed.
