In September 2024, a new Vorobey kamikaze drone was presented, developed using exclusively Russian components. This unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was created as part of the import substitution program, which allows Russia to significantly reduce dependence on foreign supplies in the military sphere. "Sparrow" is capable of carrying a payload of up to two kilograms and operates at a distance of up to five kilometers from the control station.

According to reports, the Izvestia Sparrow drone is a type (FPV drone First Person View) that is controlled by the operator in real time through a video camera installed on the UAV. One of the key features of this model is the complete transition to Russian components such as motors, speed controllers and video signal transmission systems. The developer of the drone, head of the laboratory roboticstechnopolis "Era" Andrei Vorobyov, noted that the drone was created as part of a program aimed at increasing independence from foreign technologies.

According to Vorobyov, the drone implements three frequencies of the control range and technical vision with elements of artificial intelligence. The main purpose of the drone is to use it as a kamikaze. It is capable of performing combat missions with the installation of various ammunition drop systems, including 3D printed parts. These functions allow you to quickly equip the drone in combat conditions.

The range of the drone at full load is up to five kilometers, and the duration of being in the air is up to eight minutes. "Sparrow" is being tested, after which it will be transferred to combat tests in the troops. The industry is ready for its mass production.

Military expert Yuri Lyamin emphasized the importance of creating UAVs on a domestic component base, noting that drones with Sparrow characteristics are the most in demand in the SVO zone. This makes it possible to provide the Russian army with the necessary military means, independent of the political situation and supplies from abroad.^[1]
