2024: Product Release

In mid-September 2024, Abbott launched the world's first continuous glucose monitoring system, Lingo, which is available to patients without a prescription. The Lingo system is based on FreeStyle Libre technology, which is already used by more than 6 million people with diabetes.

The Lingo system can be used by patients 18 years and older who do not use insulin. The continuous glucose monitoring system includes a biosensor that attaches to the back of the hand and can be used for up to 14 days, and a mobile application that captures glucose values in real time and helps record the body's response to food, exercise and daily stress factors.

Lingo's system analyzes the findings, presents them as accessible materials and trains patients to help them develop healthy habits, restructure metabolism and improve overall well-being. To do this, the application displays not only a glucose level graph updated in real time, but also allows you to register meals and workouts, gives individual recommendations taking into account commonly used foods and the time of day, and also helps to form new healthy habits using a reward system.

Studies show that limiting abrupt spikes in glucose concentration is beneficial in both the short and long term. At the same time, continuous glucose monitoring helps patients not only monitor risks, but also assess the body's response to different foods and eating habits, and also encourages changes in nutrition towards a healthier diet. Continuous glucose monitoring is thought to help patients adhere to low-glycemic and low-carb diets, thereby reducing body weight, improving sleep quality and well-being.[1]
