2024: China has published a roadmap for the development of the Internet of Things. 5 main directions

In mid-September 2024, China announced that it expects to connect 3.6 billion points as part of the development of the Internet of Things by 2027. This forecast is contained in the roadmap.

The focus is on IoT integration in areas such as smart vehicles, healthcare and smart homes. In particular, the Internet of Things will support features such as driving monitoring, autonomous driving, information exchange between vehicles, and comprehensive environmental sensing.

By 2027, China plans to create more than five industrial IoT clusters and more than 10 industry demonstration bases. The plan provided by the ministry describes four key tasks: strengthening the core IoT network, strengthening innovation, promoting the integration of intelligent technologies and creating a favorable environment for growth. In addition, the ministry seeks to accelerate the integration of mobile IoT with key industries, promoting digital transformation and industrialization.

As of July 2023, China had a total of 2.55 billion mobile Internet of Things connections, representing 59% of the country's total mobile terminal connections. China Mobile accounted for 46% of the world's cellular IoT connections and 20% of global IoT connectivity revenue in 2023, with connectivity up 20% year-on-year, largely driven by a comprehensive solutions strategy and adoption of high-speed 4G and 5G technologies.[1]
