2024: Product Announcement

At the end of August 2024, Dexcom released the Stelo biosensor for continuous glucose monitoring, which can be worn without taking off for two weeks. Dexcom became the first company to receive regulatory approval to sell an over-the-counter glucose monitoring tool, the second was the company that released the Libre Rio over-the-counter device.

The Stelo sensor is designed for individuals with type 2 diabetes who do not use insulin. The sensor is worn on the back of the hand and transmits data directly to the user's smartphone. Stelo is based on the G7 platform and comes with special software for non-insulin users.

Stelo Biosensor for Continuous Blood Glucose Control

The use of Stelo allows patients to refuse to draw blood from a finger for analysis. This biosensor sensor is designed for 15 days of wearing - the longest period of application of the biosensor. In addition, according to the developer, this device has the highest water resistance rating. The smartphone app allows users to receive daily, weekly and general summaries of blood glucose concentration data, helping to form healthier habits as well as identify spikes in performance and important patterns.

Dexcom offers users several purchase options. Customers can pay $99 for one pack of two sensors, paying for them as they use them, or can pay $89 a month for a permanent subscription, with two sensors delivered to the home every 30 days.

However, there is another competitive offer on the market: Abbott's Libre Rio glucose monitoring device . Other devices from the same manufacturer, the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus and FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus, also have a wear period of 15 days. Although they are used with automated insulin supply systems, the company says diabetics who do not use insulin can also apply them.[1]
