2024: UN launches digital health program in Kyrgyzstan
United Nations (UN) together with the Ministry health care Kyrgyzstan announced the launch of a large-scale program for the development of digital health care in the republic. Information on the start of a project aimed at improving access to health services by integrating digital information systems was released on October 2, 2024.
According to the Vesti.kg, the program with a budget of $4.03 million will be implemented from 2024 to 2027. Funding is provided through the UN SDG Fund with the participation of the European Union, Spain and Sweden. The project will be implemented by WHO, UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF under the leadership of the UN Permanent Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan.
The main goal of the program is to strengthen the digital health care system of Kyrgyzstan, with a special focus on ensuring access to quality health care for women, children and vulnerable groups of the population in rural and remote areas of the country.
The key element of the project will be the improvement of the digital profile of the health of citizens. It is planned to connect 3 million vaccination records to the national platform of electronic medical records (EHR), which will help about 225 thousand children under the age of one year to receive the necessary vaccinations. In addition, at least 200 thousand people will be able to view the results of their laboratory tests online.
Particular attention is paid to supporting vulnerable groups of the population. About 120 thousand people with disabilities will receive digital disability certificates, and 280 thousand people - access to digital sick leave.
The program also provides for a significant expansion of telemedicine. It is planned to provide access to medical consultations for more than 700 thousand children aged 0 to 14 years in 10 districts through a digital platform. In addition, 60 health facilities will provide specialized care to approximately 140,000 mothers and newborns connected to the EHR platform.[1]
