Biography

2024: Sentence - 5.5 years in prison for embezzlement ₽360 million

Former head of the Main Directorate for the Arrangement of Troops (GUOV) of the Ministry of Defense Evgeny Gorbachev was sentenced to five and a half years in a general regime colony for stealing ₽360 million during the construction of radar departments and aviation guidance points in the Arctic. This decision was made on October 8, 2024 by the Savelovsky District Court of Moscow, finding Gorbachev guilty of especially large-scale fraud.

According to Kommersant, in addition to imprisonment, the court sentenced Evgeny Gorbachev to a fine of ₽500 thousand. The thefts were committed in 2015-2016, when Gorbachev was the founder of the military department contractor Spetsstroy-1 LLC.

The criminal case was opened by the metropolitan police on October 1, 2021. It concerned two contracts totaling about ₽4,4 billion concluded between the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Main Directorate of Engineering Works No. 2 at Spetsstroy of Russia" and Spetsstroy-1 LLC. According to these contracts, by May 2016, a number of facilities for radar departments and aviation guidance points were planned to be erected in the Arctic.

During the audit carried out by the operatives of the GUEBiPK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the General Prosecutor's Office, it was found that part of the money was stolen under fictitious contracts through the accounts of OOO Formattika and OOO Sanplast controlled by Evgenia Gorbacheva.

Evgeny Gorbachev did not admit his guilt. His lawyer Yevgeny Krylov announced his intention to appeal the verdict. According to the defender, his client was "a simple lawyer from Krasnoyarsk" and at the age of 28 came to work with Vitaly Prudnikov, who was the real beneficiary of the company.

The case against Vitaly Prudnikov, co-founder of Technostroy LLC, was separated into a separate proceeding and suspended due to his participation in a special military operation. Prudnikov pleaded guilty and currently serves as a baker in a motorized rifle battalion.

The injured party filed a civil lawsuit in the amount of more than ₽367 million, which was partially satisfied by the court. The victim recognized the right to appeal to civil proceedings. According to the publication, the total amount of claims is about ₽1,5 billion.^[1]
