2024: Elected President of Sri Lanka
In September 2024, new President Anura Kumar Dissanayake took office in Sri Lanka, elected head of state in the first election since the mass protests of 2022 and the early resignation of previous President Gotabai Rajapaksa. After the victory, the president-elect announced his readiness to "rewrite the history of Sri Lanka."
