2024: Highway Construction Plan for ₽103,7 Billion

In mid-October 2024, it became known about plans to build a new Northern Bypass highway in Novorossiysk. The total cost of the project is estimated at ₽103,7 billion, while the first stage of construction will require investments in the amount of ₽29,7 billion.

According to Notepad Novorossiysk, information on the cost of the project was announced by the Chairman of the City Duma Andrei Antonov at a meeting of the Commission of the Duma Committee on Industry, Ecology, Transport and Communications. The Northern Bypass project is designed to solve the long-term problem of traffic congestion in the city.

Northern Bypass Project

The length of the new route will be 41.1 km. It will connect the entrance to Novorossiysk and the village of Vinogradnoye with a single transport network through the mountains in the Eastern District. The implementation of the project will significantly reduce the load on city roads, saving them from a large number of heavy vehicles.

The deputy head of the city, Alexander Yamenskov, previously noted that the construction of the Northern Bypass will be a long process, as it requires coordination with the federal authorities, including the Ministry of Transport and Avtodor. According to him, the pre-project decision will be considered at the State Council.

Yamenskov also emphasized the environmental friendliness of the Northern Bypass project in comparison with alternative options for the development of the road network. In particular, the new route will allow revising plans for the construction of a section of the federal highway M-4 Don from Tsemdolina to Portovaya Street.

It is expected that the implementation of the Northern Bypass project will help solve the problem of regular traffic jams not only at the Wolf Gate, but also at the Kirillovsky turn, Shesharis and Methodievka. This will significantly improve the transport situation in the city and improve the quality of life of local residents.

Despite the high cost of the Northern Bypass project, it is considered a priority for the development of the transport infrastructure of Novorossiysk. For comparison, the Southern Bypass project is estimated at ₽51 billion, which is almost half the cost of the northern option.[1]
