2024: Product Announcement

On October 14, 2024, the South Korean company Hyundai and the German optics manufacturer Zeiss presented holographic displays for car windshields. The technology is called Holographic HUD.

The essence of the Holographic HUD system is to clearly display various content directly on the windshield, which turns into a translucent screen. The technology represents a significant evolution over traditional projection displays, which display only relatively simple information such as speed, navigation tips, and restriction warnings. In the case of Holographic HUD, a panorama is created on the windshield with the ability to display a wide variety of information. The driver, in particular, can see the data from the dashboard and the map, while the passenger in the front seat will be shown multimedia materials.

All important information will be displayed on a transparent display at the bottom of the windshield. This improves driving safety as drivers can view data without taking their eyes off the road. Another important advantage of the system is that it allows for completely new vehicle front panel designs. For example, automakers can completely abandon the traditional dashboard.

The new type of windshield also provides added comfort as entertainment content can be projected directly into the front passenger's field of view. A thin transparent film based on holographic technology is used to display information. Hyundai and Zeiss' vision is to bring multifunctional smart glass technology to every car and every home.[1]
