One of the world's largest horror movie studios has begun using neural networks to generate video

Customers: Blumhouse Productions

Project date: 2024/10

October 17, 2024 Meta (recognized as an extremist organization; activities in the Russian Federation are prohibited) announced the start of cooperation with Blumhouse Productions, a Hollywood film studio specializing in the production of horror films and slasher films. The goal of the partnership is to use the AI-based Meta Movie Gen tool to generate video.

It is claimed that the Movie Gen neural network is capable of creating high-quality 1080p video footage with appropriate soundtrack. In addition, existing videos can be modified: you can replace the background, colors of objects, or add new details. AI is able to create videos based on a photo of a person and a text request. Movie Gen tools can be used to add audio to existing videos.

It is reported that Anish Chaganti, an American director and screenwriter of Indian origin, will apply Movie Gen among others. In addition, Casey Affleck, an American theater, film and television actor, as well as a film director, film producer and screenwriter, will adopt the tool. Video materials created using a neural network will be used in the production of short films. Blumhouse CEO Jason Bloom said filmmakers remain the industry's driving force and innovative technology will help them build better products.

The joint project with Blumhouse for Meta is a demonstration that the company intends to partner with creative industries, whose representatives have largely opposed the emergence of generative artificial intelligence technologies due to concerns about copyright infringement.[1]
