2014: Cryptic Disk 4

The Exlade company released the version of the program of disk encryption of Cryptic Disk 4 in November, 2014. Updating will provide compatibility of the program with a format of the TrueCrypt program which support was officially stopped by developers. The free version of the program and a number of functional changes is also announced.

Not always formats of disk encryption are compatible with each other, so, users "are in a sense tied" to this or that solution. When the well-known TrueCrypt was closed, many users were faced the need of migration on other solution.

Cryptic Disk 4 released Exlade company accepts relay at TrueCrypt, offering support of the containers and disks ciphered by this program in the new version. It means that the user can connect containers and the whole disks TrueCrypt so as if they were created by the Cryptic Disk program. And though a part of opportunities of Cryptic Disk is not supported by the TrueCrypt format, existence of a similar option is already huge plus for a great number of users of TrueCrypt who for some reason could not or did not want to pass to other solution.

The enciphering opportunities given to Cryptic Disk 4 considerably exceed the capacity of TrueCrypt. In addition to basic functionality of disk encryption and files, the program is equipped a number of more advanced functions. So, thanks to technology of "deniable encription" the disks ciphered using Cryptic Disk 4 do not contain any signatures which could issue the fact of enciphering. Creation of the hidden enclosed ciphered disks will make this fact unprovable at all. And using technology of cascade enciphering the program alternates different encryption algorithms, increasing data security on a disk even more. It is convenient that at connection or shutdown of the encoded container it is possible to configure start of certain applications or scenarios.

Starting with version 4 Cryptic Disk it became available free of charge. Now the license scheme provides two editions: Free and Professional. Both editions provide a full support of the TrueCrypt format, and it means that millions of users of this utility received the functional and free program for work with a format of the ciphered data of TrueCrypt in the order.

Cryptic Disk 4 is issued in two editions: free Cryptic Disk Free and Cryptic Disk Professional for $64.95. In the professional version enciphering of physical disks, several encryption algorithms at choice and to three levels of the enclosed enciphering is available. The program supports Windows XP SP3 and is more senior.

January, 2011

In the version of January, 2011 of the Cryptic Disk program a system part was finished owing to what work on multiprocessor and multinuclear platforms is optimized that is necessary for use in the corporate sector, noted in Exlade. Now Cryptic Disk, during the work with the ciphered disks on such platforms, uses all processors / cores for data encryption that allows to accelerate enciphering and interpretation of data, says the company.

At the same time, in the new version support function of Deniable Encryption appeared: the ciphered volumes do not contain any tags allowing to prove that it is the ciphered disk or a container. At the end of each ciphered disk the backup copy of heading on a case of damage of the main heading which is built in the beginning of a disk is stored.

Besides, there was a possibility of use of bigger number of different cryptographic algorithms for data encryption: AES/Rijndael, Serpent, Twofish, Blowfish, CAST6, and instead of the mode of data encryption of "CBC" is used "XTS" developed especially for data encryption on information media now. It allows to increase cryptofirmness of the ciphered data and to increase enciphering key length, explained in Exlade.

The possibility of use together with the password of key files can provide additional protection of the ciphered data. Cryptic Disk in the current version has an opportunity not to save the ways specified by the user, thus, in addition complicating determination of location of the ciphered containers or disks. Also the multilingual packet of the program was expanded, noted in the company.

In the whole Cryptic Disk represents the universal solution for protection of the data which are stored on the computer against unauthorized access. The program applies an algorithm of "transparent" disk encryption, and for differentiation of access rights possibilities of the operating system are used.
